Scripps Ranch Fire Safe Council

Whispering Ridge South
Chapter

Description

The Whispering Ridge South Brush Abatement and Weed Suppression Project is scheduled to begin on July 1. Environmental Land Management has been retained for the Project.  Environmental Land Management will bring its goat herd to the Whispering Ridge South area of Scripps Ranch to reduce rapidly accumulating dry brush and weeds in the area.  Technically called “goat browsing”, the use of goats to eat brush and weeds is an environmentally friendly and cost-effective means of brush and weed management.  It will take the goats approximately fourteen days to complete the 13.5 acre Project.

The Whispering Ridge neighborhood of Scripps Ranch suffered more losses than any other part of Scripps Ranch in the 2003 Cedar Fire.  Residents of Whispering Ridge South formed their own Chapter of the Scripps Ranch Fire Safe Council to take on the task of creating adequate fire breaks in the area.

Projected Start Date: July 1, 2006
